Available as a pilot program for school districts, Project ROME for Education lets students and educators express, collaborate and communicate ideas using graphics, photos, text, video, audio and animation in a simple, unified content creation and publishing environment to enhance the learning experience. The Qwest Foundation has partnered with the Organization for Educational Technology and Curriculum (OETC) to award $58,500 in mini-grants to districts. This opportunity is through a Qwest Foundation for Education Grant to be awarded to Oregon K-12 educators who participate in their Regional Ed Tech Cadre and who demonstrate an innovative use of technology with students and or collaborate with a teacher(s) team. The funds will be disbursed to the local school. Qwest Foundation funds may be used to purchase the following for use in the classroom:

* supplies and materials
* technology
* professional development (PD) activities

Any supplies and materials or capital objects purchased become property of the school should the teacher(s) leave the school. Funds will be announced the week of November 23, 2010: The deadline for the electronic application is November 2, 2010.

The purpose of this grant is to:

1. Provide opportunities for Oregon teacher(s) participating in the Regional Ed Tech Cadres to implement strategies they have learned;
2. Recognize Oregon K-12 educators who are using technology in innovative ways with students;
3. Increase an awareness of how teacher(s) are using technology in the classroom;
4. Model best practices with technology integration improving student achievement

OETC and ACPE are hosting the first IT support staff symposium at Northwest Regional ESD on October 8. The K-12 IT Support Staff Symposium provides professional development and dialogue designed specifically for technology leaders, IT support staff and IT classified staff. This symposium will address the many complexities of administering an IT support environment and provide successful models that can be implemented within the attendee's district. Stimulating conversations, job-embedded skill building and resources are the priorities of this interactive day.

On October 8th at Sherwood High school will host the inaugural Google summit. There is no cost and there are over 20 sessions in three tracks; instruction, administration and technology. More details can be found at the Google summit website, http://googlesummit.org.

On August 20, the Oregon Department of Education will be moving their entire data center to Oregon State University. All ODE applications and web services will be offline until approximately 8 AM on August 23.

On January 14, 2010 the EESC Board voted to partially fund all 20 of the LastMile grant applications. This bienniums grants will support over 8,000 students, 200 teachers in 39 buildings. A total of $630,000 of grants will be distributed to the 20 successful applicants. The grant applications have been attached to the end of this page.
